Places That You May Encounter Mold
You’ve probably experienced mold growth in your Brandon, MN home at some point. There are certain areas that are known to be mold havens, such as kitchens, bathrooms or places that have sustained water damage. However, mold may be hiding in areas that you would never think to look. It’s important to find and remedy as much mold as possible. You may encounter mold in these unexpected places:
1. Windows
When the temperature between your house and the outdoors is drastically different, condensation can form on your windows. If it is allowed to remain damp, mold can begin to grow.
2. Houseplants
Usually, houseplants are good for your house’s air quality. But when mold develops on the plant or in the soil, this can outweigh the benefits. Mold growth can occur due to overwatering or lack of sunlight.
3. Refrigerator/Freezer
Mold can grow on refrigerator and freezer drip pans and door gaskets due to condensation and possible transference of mold spores from food to the refrigerator itself.
4. Recyclables
Oftentimes recyclable food and drink containers will be rinsed, but may still have a tiny amount of food or drink remaining. This can cause mold growth, so make sure you rinse thoroughly or use lids on containers when they’re available.
5. Air Conditioning Units
Many window air conditioning units have built-in moisture control, but most likely there will be some condensation within and on the outside of the unit. This is an optimal breeding ground for mold due to high humidity, dark spaces and dust (dust feeds mold). Air conditioning units are one of the worst places to have mold growth since the spores will be blown throughout the house. Consider installing a HEPA filter in the unit to filter any pollutants from blowing out into the house and regularly clean the unit.
Mold growth emits spores, which travel throughout your house and multiply quickly in the right conditions. The situation can soon get out of control. It may be time to hire mold remediation professionals for a thorough inspection and mold cleanup.
